This Employee Handbook (Handbook) is the official means for Tenth Presbyterian Church (Tenth) to communicate organizational policy and personnel procedures to all employees. It is filled with relevant information that you should know now and in the future. In the case of pastoral staff employees, some, but not all these policies will apply. For the extent to which some of the policies contained in this Handbook also apply to pastoral staff, as well as additional policies that apply only to pastoral staff, please see the Pastoral Staff Employee Handbook.

Tenth, as a church body, is firmly committed to the well-being of its employees. The policies contained in this Handbook represent Tenth’s most recent expression of the church’s commitment to provide employees with equitable and consistent treatment. This Handbook is intended to describe Tenth’s employment policies for the benefit of its employees and is not a contract. The policies in this Handbook may be changed from time to time without notice at Tenth’s discretion. The policies in this Handbook are meant to serve as guidelines only. No provision or portion of this Handbook constitutes an implied or express contract, guarantee, or assurance of employment. All employment is “at-will,” which means that just as you are free to end your employment relationship with Tenth at any time, Tenth is also free to end the employment relationship at any time, for any reason, with or without cause or notice. This policy of at-will employment may not be modified by any manager or employee and shall not be modified in any publication or document.

This Handbook supersedes and replaces all prior employee handbooks.

This Handbook was compiled by the Personnel Committee, a committee whose purpose is to support Tenth’s staff leaders with employment-related issues. Any Tenth employee may make suggestions through the Administrator to the Personnel Committee regarding work-related matters.

Employees are expected to perform their work to the best of their ability. Employees should conduct themselves so that the safety of both themselves and their fellow workers is preserved. Every effort should be made to maintain positive and constructive relationships with fellow employees. An employee’s attitude and work ethic should be consistent with instruction that we are to work “not by the way of eye service, as people-pleasers, but as servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart, rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man, knowing that whatever good anyone does, this he will receive back from the Lord…” (Ephesians 6:6–8).
